Best Answer: "Feeling out the waters," is another way of saying that you're testing something out.

But that was the answer....... Say you're looking for a new job, but you don't want to quit the old one yet. You might "feel out the waters" at other establishments to see if they have any opportunitites before you leave the sure thing you already have.
