O-lan had a tough life and that's understating things. Even though a year in Hell would have been better than much of her life O-lan has know regrets. She actually loves this guy. Describing a slave-girls life in the China during 1890s would be too depressing to comprehend. Suffice to say she was treated no better than cattle for much of her life.
