The Glass Menagerie

In Scene 6 of The Glass Menagerie, we are again told of Amanda's memories. What kinds of patterns emerge in these stories? Look at the range of experiences she describes throughout the play.

Throughout The Glass Menagerie Amanda lives in the past and embraces long gone memories. She lives through Laura..... or she would if Laura would allow her to. Emerging patterns can be found in Amanda's flirtaciousness, her dinner plans, childish behavior, and even in the clothes she wears. These patterns embarass her children, particularly when her reminiscing ends and she enters the end of the good time.... her marriage.
