Amanda?

Is Amanda just overprotective, or does her devotion to Laura’s eventual marriage suggest a more serious issue? If you were a close friend of Amanda, how would you advise her to behave toward Laura?

Amanda is trying to make sure her daughter's future is protected, namely by getting married to someone who will take care of her. This isn't a strange goal for the context in which the play is written. If I were friends with Amanda, I'd probably tell her to lay off and let Laura alone.
