Why is the Walls family moving to Battle Mountain?

The family leaves Blythe and moves to Battle Mountain because Rex is almost pulled over by the police in a car with stolen license plates. The car does not have insurance or registration either. Unfortunately, Rex makes a run for it, and although he gets away, he knows the police will be looking for the car. The Walls choose Battle Mountain because Rex claims there's gold there.
