The children are allowed to play in the water during lightning storms. What does this suggest about the Walls' parenting?

The Walls were not hands-on parents. They believed in letting their children learn from their mistakes. Thus, the children are self taught. Unfortunately, this kind of parenting can be considered both abusive and neglectful.
