The Glass Castle

In The Glass Castle Rose Mary says “God doesn’t mind you bending the rules a little if you have a good reason. It's sort of like justiable homicide. This is justifiable pilfering” (111).

What does that statement show about Mrs. Walls beliefs?? What lesson is she trying to come arcoss?

Mother decides they need to go shoplifting for Maureen's clothes because she didn't want her youngest daughter beginning preschool in worn out clothes. Mother justifies the crime by saying God does not mind stealing if the cause is good.
