How is Rex different from the other members of his family? How does he resemble them?

Rex does not look like his parents. Like Rex's family, Rex is a dreamer with absolutely no substance to him. Mother is in her own world. They are kind of alike except mother doesn't constantly preach nonsense about the future. The kids just suffer.
