How does Jeannette interact with her dad?

How does she interact with her dad when she was a child, and still believed in him. How does this change and what exact point of the book does this change.

Jeannette's father abuses his relationship with Jeannette over and over again. She is the child that would stand up for him no matter what, and yet, he threw that away for alcohol and making easy money. He let her down over and over again. Her attitude changes with her need for survival. She can't save them both, so she has to save herself. I believe the incident that had the most impact was his use of Jeannette to distract grown men while hustling pool. He put her in a dangerous position without regard for her safety.
