Why has the author used the value of a Multi-generational family as a theme? Give examples from the novel...

I think there is the lack of a multi-generational family in the story. All tradition of any substance is stilted in families. There are no connections of identity, only the superficial rules and emotions that the Elder's encourage in contrived families. Family loyalty is only a vague concept that is easily disposable over time. Jonas's parents don't even seem to notice their son's absence as he takes on his new responsibilities.
