All of Jona's other relationships revolve around prescribed behavior conformity. Relationships follow narrow boundaries prescribed by the Elders. Although pleasant, they lack substance and passion. Jona's relationship with Gabe is different. Jona is passionate about this baby. He feels a singular bond with the baby that transcends laws of the Elders and the narrow confines of "acceptability".
