The Giver

what types of lessons does Jonas learn in the giver about leadership and commitment?

He learns that with leadership comes responsibility. When he becomes the Reciever, he has the responsibility of keeping the memories of the community and using the knowledge of those memories to make wise choices in the future to help and benefit the community. He also learns that he needs to commit to being the reciever in training because it will cause turmoil in the community if he runs away from the responsibility.
