What is the setting of the giver?
The setting is a future that is not specified. It is a seemingly utopian society. On greater study we find the community to be rather dystopian. It is set up to be a simplistic society where any meaningful negative emotions are taken away and re-directed. Humans, of course, need a variety of experiences and emotions to make sense of their lives.
