How is the Giver different from the other adults in the same community?

The Giver is different than other adults because he has memories of the past. The Giver knows what happened to previous generations, he understands why Jonas' community became isolated and self regulated. The Giver also knows and feels the emotions the other adults and children in the community cannot feel.
