Jonas is a dynamic character. He changes during the course of the novel due to his experiences and actions. He loses his innocence as he gets more responsibility in the narrative. Jonas sees the darker side of his society and the Elders. He begins to feel more estranged from everything he was once familiar with. He feels, for example, that his father willingly sacrifices newborn children as a part of his role as nurturer.
