The major conflict exists between Jonas who has all of the collective memory of the world around him and the world which has no ability to feel any emotion.  They are devoid of strong, sad emotions; they experience no pain and feel nothing other than simply joy, but nothing "high."  Jonas finds some of the memories so passionate (both good passion and bad passion) that he does not quite know how to cope with it all.  Ultimately, Jonas wants to do something that no Giver has ever done and that is to begin giving all of the memories back to the society.

Thank You so much!!
