How does the author show us eddies life in today’s eddies birthday?

Looking back at all of the “Today is Eddie’s Birthday” chapters, how does the author show us Eddie’s life and the passage of time by these short chapters on his birthdays? Do you think this is effective?

I think this is effective. The reader gets a snapshot of Eddie at different points in his life. We see how Eddie changes and reacts to all that life hands him. It is like a montage of milestones that the reader can interpret in good times and in in bad. The birthdays help put Eddie’s after death experience into greater context.
