The purpose of the final chapter is to provide closure. We learn what Reef's friends are doing, about Scar's scholarship, about school, and Reef's desire to do well... to fulfill his promise to the judge... to prove himself. We also learn that Reef hasn't given up on someday being able to speak to Leeza, and we also learn that he has come to terms with his own actions and emotions... that he has learned to cope.... to walk away.
