The Fifth Element

The Fifth Element Analysis

This film begins with an ancient culture visiting earth. A culture that has secretly visited the planet for millennia, but kept their secret. They are protectors of life. To defend life against the destructive and evil force of darkness. We see a world that is technologically advanced, but in its advancement they are unable to see beyond the statue of their own creation.

Thus, the irony of Leeloo being the ultimate protector of life is that she is created out of nature. These are things that cannot be created by man: elements that belong to the earth, that have been apart of life, growing it and sustaining it for ages, but overlooked by life in its arrogance because of its need for power. The film shows man's need for for nature, and for love. In return, nature shows its need to be cared for and loved in return which is represented in Korben's love for Leeloo. It's his love that causes her to protect life and save the universe.
