Who is Hazel Grace?

Hazel Grace Lancaster is the protagonist of the novel. She is a sixteen-year-old Indianapolis teenager with terminal thyroid cancer that has metastasized to her lungs. There is of course a lot more to her personality than simply a girl struggling with cancer.
