It shows that Roderick was a classic crazy protagonist that Poe liked. Roderick claimed to fear that the medical men "would disturb her body" . Some critics feel he was trying to preserve his sister in some creepy way. Other critics feel there was an incestuous relationship going on and Roderick couldn't let go of. Whatever you choose to believe, Roderick was one creepy dude!
