This is a classic question that many have answered in different ways. In my opinion, the element of parody is there to the extent that the reader considers Poe to be a serious artist. If we consider him to be a great artist of horror, then perhaps the parody is low; if not, then perhaps it is a parody through and through. I personally find Poe's work to be monotonous, so no secret where I land.
