Why is the fur coat so important to mrs van Adan

The van Daan's are fighting over money. Mrs. van Daan wants to keep her fur coat and sell it after the war to buy clothes. Mr.van Daan says they need the money now. I suppose that in this case Mr. Van Dann might actually have a point.
