Anne has various dreams in the book so I'm not exactly sure where you are. One night Anne dreams that she sees Hanneli, who asks Anne to rescue her. Anne feels helpless and ashamed. She wishes she treated Hanneli better and feels guilty that she is safe and Hanneli isn't. This sense of guilt is a theme throughout the book.
