The relationship between Anne and Peter was one of romantic young love. They spent an enormous amount of time together and enjoyed each other's company. They also garnered emotional support from their relationship; it gave each of them a strength they may not otherwise have had.

I've always taken care to remember how young Anne was when she wrote her diaries, and I think that they have to be read as a "young" girl's diary. People have romanticized this relationship over and over again, but young girls tend to romanticize far more and her relationship with Peter in my eyes would have been completely innocent. She expressed herself beautifully and her emotion is evident. Did she regret their budding romance. No, I think not!
