The first and foremost conflict Anne faces is the fact that she is Jewish in a Nazi controlled area. During this time, the Jews quickly found their lives changing in numerous ways. Their freedoms were taken away, they were confined by numerous rules, and any kind of infraction could result in a loss of life. After the Franks went into hiding their fate was precarious. They might live out the war confined in the annex, or they might be discovered and transported to a concentration camp or killed.

Other conflicts take place within the annex.... conflicts over privacy, food, space.... or simply the desire to leave confinement. Anne also has a running conflict with her mother, something that in reality is nothing more than the conflicts all girls experience as teenagers.
