Give reason for people in the annexe being afraid of Mr.Van Maaran.

Willem Van Maaren takes over as warehouse manager in 1943. He is an outsider and the people of the annex are suspicious of him. He was an inquisitive man who suspected that people came to the warehouse from outside at night. Van Maaren's suspicions frightened the people in the annexe.  After the war Van Maaren is being regarded as a suspect for betraying the people in the annexe.
