Of the eight Jews in the Annex, only Otto survived. During the days they lived inside of the Annex, none of them would have survived without the outside help they received. People, good people, put their own lives on the line on a regular basis to not only supply the residents of the Annex with needed items, but to keep them safe as well.

Anne wrote is her diary about Miep Gies. She described how fond she was of the woman who'd supplied the Annex with a portion of her own food rations in order to help sustain them. She is also the woman who supplies them with news from the outside. Miep takes Anne's diary and even attempts to bribe officers to release the family after their arrest.
