Johannes Kleiman and Victor Kugler are the first to hear that the Franks are wanting to go into hiding. Otto Frank asks the helpers if they are prepared to help his family as well as the Van Pels family. Although many Germans were abusive or indifferent to Jews, there were some that desperately tried to help, even at their own peril. They knew the persecution and genocide was against all humanity. Miep wasa Dutch woman who assists the annex residents with food, clothing, books, and companionship. Thr Franks needed connections from the outside to tell them what was happening and give them supplies.
