    How do Anne's 13th and 14th birthdays differ? Does she write about them differently?

    Between Anne's 13th and 14th birthdays her circumstances change drastically. Not only does her family go into hiding during that year, but the material facts of her birthday are completely different from age 13 to age 14 -- at age 13 she gets a large number of presents and at age 14 just a few, including a poem. But practically the only gift from her 13th birthday that is still present in her life a year later is her diary, so perhaps the presents were not that important.
