Aunt Eva told Hannah how she had changed her name, how only two of the villagers Hannah had met were alive at the end of the war. She told Hannah that Yitzchak had escaped, and that Gitl had dwindled down to seventy-three pounds because she'd shared her food with the children. None-the-less, Gitl too had survived. She had come to America, whereas, Gitl and Yitzchak had emigrated to Israel. Leye and her baby were also survivors.
