The Devil's Arithmetic

What did you think about Yolen's "The Devil's Arithmetic?" What might the devil's transformation into a devil mean in the context of his work and the time in which Yolen is writing?

I thought it was ok, i'd give it a 9/10.

Certainly the Nazis are personified as evil, or even the devil incarnate. Even today the Nazi era is used as a sort of unofficial benchmark of evil. The allusion to the Devil becomes a powerful metaphor in itself to explain how such atrocities could ever happen in the first place.
