In Chapter Three, Hannah willingly takes her wine and pours out the whole glass for the prophet Elijah. Her grandfather comments that Hannah's sacrifice is a great one because it was not asked for. Her sacrifice, as seen by her grandfather, is symbolically an act of faith.
