In the book, why is Christopher able to connect with animals more than with human beings?

Christopher relates to animals more than people because he finds them easier to understand. Animals provided us with clear messages and responses. They wag their tails, jump, and growl, thus, he gets them. People aren't like that, nothing is ever clean cut....... there's too much emotion, too many questions, and too many complex ideas. Christopher is literal, and he takes the things that people say and do literally, even when he misunderstands.
