Christopher copes by distracting himself with math problems, covering his ears, and imagining himself a character in a computer game. Unfortunately, Christopher also regresses and uses childhood coping skills to avoid unwanted situations. For example, he locks himself in a cupboard on the train to avoid meeting his father.
