What is the effect of Sarah Good's and Tituba's talk about flying south?

We aren't completely sure why Miller includes this section. Certainly Tituba would like to get out of Salem any way she can, even if the Devil takes her back to Barbados. It is also possible that the two are just trying to keep their act going so they can throw themselves at the mercy of the court and have their lives spared.
