Initially Mary was to tell the judge that the Abigail and the other girls were merely putting on an act : the whole witch craziness is not real. Abigail, however, puts on a great performance accusing Mary of sending out her spirit in the court room. This scares Mary into recanting her testimony and joining Abigail once again.
