The Crucible

The crucible act 2. What defines a character foil? Why would you say that Mary is a foil for Elizabeth?

Mary is trying to be ofensive.

A character foil is someone who brings out the traits in another, usually opposite, character. Marry Warren is timid, skittish, and naive. This is juxtaposed with Elizabeth's self-aware stoicism and understanding of her world.
