The Crucible

Reverend Hale

Why is the story about Hale not indicting the woman in Beverly for being a witch important?

This separates Hale from the witch court. It shows that Hale is only interested in his "science" rather than validating his position or wanting to maintain power over others. The witch court only seeks to continue to wield power over others.
