John Proctor certainly is struggling against a current of self loathing and corruption. He struggles against his own infidelity to his wife as well as the insanity of the witch trials taking place. Proctor struggles to save his own name while trying to save his wife and the innocents who are at the mercy of a corrupt court.

Whole of the play The Crucible is dealing with man's struggle.proctor is a good example to justify how man is bound to struggle,to save his good repute, his life, his wife.but he is able to save only his good soul.
