In Act 1 Mary is the likeable servant in the Proctor house. Mary is initially reluctant to be part of Abigail's whole witch plan. By act two she is now an official in the court, formally accusing people of witchcraft, along with Abigail and the other girls. Mary is terrified of Abigail and, by act 2, is under her control.
