How is john proctor not a hero for todays reader.

By today's standards? I think Proctor would be called a hero and a fool. Modern morals and values are nothing like they were in Puritan times...... today people make fortunes by advertizing their indescretions publicly......... Protor never would have done that..... he valued his reputation and only confessed for Elizabeth.
