The people of Andover revolted against the courts when they went through a similar experience to that of Salem. Rather than continue to watch innocent people condemned to death by lies and false accusations, the community stood together and fought against those in charge. In the Crucible, Danforth was frightened that if Proctir and Rebecca Nurse were in fact hung, the community would have a similar reaction.
