How could Mary be seen as a foil for Elizabeth?

A character foil is someone who brings out the traits in another, usually opposite, character. Mary Warren is timid, skittish, and naive. This is juxtaposed with Elizabeth's self-awareness, stoicism, and understanding of her world.
