Hale

Reverend John Hale is a scholar from Beverly; Reverend Hale comes to Salem on Reverend Parris' request to investigate supernatural causes for Betty Parris' suspicious illness and thus instigates the rumours of witchcraft. Hale is initially intent on seeking out witchery but discovers that the witch-hunt is based on lies. He sees the witch court as participating in the hysteria to validate their existence.
