Hlae was summoned to Salem to look into the witch matter.

Proctor doesn't like Parris, so he wants to explain Parris's failings to Hale. Parris has bought a gold chalice and done some other political things that turn Proctor off. That's why Proctor doesn't go to church. This is his undoing in the end.
