Help with setting of Crucible...

Hi, I'm in the middle of writting an essay due wednesday and i was wondering if anyone could help me with the setting of The Crucible? I know it's set in Salem and that's about it...Could anyone help me? Thanks...Help would be much appreciated.

My english teacher said: Well a crucible was a small bowl that was used to mix herbs and spices, like all different substances through the use of heat. mix stuff togther to crtea something else. So he was realting this to all the different theories , ideas of witchcraft and conspircies all mixed together i this one to create one hell of a story.The mixing bowl could be a symbol of the people, courts, and town heated (symbolisim-when bowl heated)with fear and greed. This creates a change of emotions and feelings that effect their actions.

You could mention that even though people were innocent, some of them said they were guilty so they wouldnt be hung. Something to do with their religion becuase they confessed. whereas the inoccent that said they were innocent were hung.
