Monsieur de Villefort iis another static character who does not change from beginning to end. He is the public prosecutor of Marseilles who was responsible for Dantes' incarceration. Much to Villefort's chagrin, Villefort's father was a known Bonapartist, thus his policy for Bonapartist conspirators was harsh. He sought to protect his own name. He clearly thinks of himself and his legacy first,

does he think of himself first before chapter 10 starts?

Yes, he does. He overcompensates for his father being a Bonapartist and goes after people,in part, to protect his own name.

Thanks makes sense now.

what does overcompensate mean?

He tries too hard to prosecute people.

you said, "He overcompensates for his father being a Bonapartis", can you explain this please?

His father was considered a traitor so he tries to distance himself from him.

so then what trait is present here?

He is caring and a good father.

sorry its hard for me to understand sometimes, i thought i understood you from your first response, i m just a bit confused.

how was villefort caring or good?
