The Count of Monte Cristo

What has Edmond Dantes lost or gained. Is he satisfied with what he has done?

Considering edmond dantes' personal character throughout the novel.

Throughout the course of the novel Edmond loses all sense of self and all connection with those around him. He is bitter and has little feeling outside of revenge (he does feel gratitude toward people who have assisted him). In the end...... he does find love and that love gives him a brand new start. So I believe that for him, the end has justified the means. He lost a lot of time seeking vengeance, but in the end, he got his life back.
