I like Mercedes because she is Mercedes is a poor Catalan, yet she is noble and beautiful. She is the fiancee of Dantes who is wronged by the man whom she thought of as a brother, Fernand Mondego. When Dantes is imprisoned she cares for Dantes' father until his death. I don't see these same qualities in Haydee.

Haydée Is an active character, she Is like a female versión of le Comte. Mercedes Is a passive character, she Is the ideal of a woman of her times: a good wife and mother. She Is also a motivation for Edmondo, and a prize for the winner. Buy we don't know todo mucho about her. We know that she was the love of the protagonist younger days. We know mucho More about Haydée, her past, her motivations, her resolver. If I have to choose between the two, I Will certainly choose Haydée.
